Biography
Philippe Laliberté is a doctoral student at HEC Montréal in organizational behavior and human resources and a student researcher at the Sports Center. Funded by the Fonds de Recherche du Québec, his thesis focuses on the careers of sports coaches and the professionalization of this occupation. He holds a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's degree in sports psychology (thesis on coach feedback and its effects on athlete motivation).
A former high-level sprint canoeist (2002-2020) and participant in the 2017 Canada Games, he then held a technical management and head coaching role at a canoeing club for five years before retiring to focus on new projects in the sports world and completing his PhD. He also served as an athlete representative on the domestic development committee of his national sports federation (Canoe Kayak Canada) for more than five years.
Recently, Philippe has been focusing even more on his doctoral studies and his role as an advisor/consultant at Très Bon Point. The latter allows him to combine all of his field experience and academic knowledge to support federations and coaches in their professionalization efforts, particularly in collaboration with the Institut National du sport du Québec.
An athlete at heart, Philippe continues his daily multi-sport training with running, indoor workouts, bouldering, and occasionally in his speed canoe.
